Greek Hoplite WIP #4

Alright, plugging along here. This time I have more flesh to show you. The right arm is mostly done, and also the cape has been highlighted and shaded. Up next is weathering the armor and helmet then finally finishing off the shield.

Greek Hoplite WIP #3

Before tackling the shield freehand I decided to start the main body. I'm going with an orange cloak similar to the box art, just like the helmet plume. I changed the way I paint bronze armor for this bust and I quite like the results. I'm still dreading the right arm, painting that much flesh at this scale is a very tall order. That step should be started fairly soon. Anyway, here's the progress.

Greek Hoplite WIP #2

Well, my original plan of finishing this in two weeks time was indeed crazy. The MMSI show starts tomorrow and I haven't even finished the head yet. Oh well, I can always show it next year. I have made progress, however. I began working on the helmet and shield. The small shield freehand is finished, now all that's left is the hard part, the sphinx. The helmet has been blocked in with colors and the metals were shaded. No highlights or weathering yet. On to the pics.

Greek Hoplite from Young Miniatures: The Begining

Here I start my most ambitious project to date. I decided to go to the MMSI show in the Chicago burbs on Oct. 23rd-25th. I have a few miniatures to bring to the show but I thought I would paint something brand new just for the event. And with only two weeks time, for some reason, I decided this bust would be it. I must be crazy.

Here is the bust all cleaned up and ready to paint.

Air bubble in the right eye socket, only problem in the entire kit.
Size comparison with 30mm miniature
Mock-up of the shield design. Going for a Theban theme.

Now begins the painting:

Stay tuned...

Bits-Box Chaos Space Marine WIP #5

Now the viking bust is finished it's time to get back to the Chaos marine. When we last left him he looked like this:

First off, work was done to the leather piece in the front. Tried to add texture and depth.

Next came the right shoulder pauldron and axe head

After these photos were taken, I decided all silver was not working for the axe head so I decided to add in more gold.

Next was the right shoulder pauldron.

And here's where we stand now; the arms are attached and only a few details are left to paint before building a base. The purple armor on the arms and the axe handle are the only major spots left.
